On Monday 2nd August at County Hall in Maidstone, David Brazier, Kent County Council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Waste and the Council's Member Cycling Champion, along with Mark Broyd, Area Manager for Cycles UK and Laurence Tricker, Cyclopark Project Manager, presented Pat Sykes with his brand new Raleigh 400 Airlite bike, courtesy of Cycles UK. Pat won the bike after beating an Olympic gold medallist at the Cyclopark stand at the Kent County Show on Sunday 18th July. Jamie Staff MBE, World BMX champion and Cyclopark’s champion, posed a challenge for visitors and set a time of 12.44 seconds for a 250m cycle sprint on a stationary bike. Pat beat Jamie with a time of 12.22 seconds and even returned to the stand a second time to try to beat his own time! Julia Hill produced the best women’s time with a 15.86 and was presented with a Raleigh Airlite 100 bike at the same time.

Kent County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Waste David Brazier, who is also the council's Member Cycling Champion, said: "The challenge of racing against Olympic Champion Jamie Staff's time was a tremendous draw for young and old at the Kent Show, with people queuing to pit themselves against our gold-medal winner. The challenge helped show people the fun that cycling can provide and I hope the winners enjoy their wonderful new machines."

Younger winners, to be presented with their prizes at a later date, were Catherine Creamer for the girls with a time of 16.18 seconds and Alex Bates, for the boys, at 12.87 seconds.

The Cyclopark project team decided that the Kent County Show was the perfect opportunity to spread the word in Kent about Cyclopark. They manned a stand to provide visual displays of design plans for the innovative park, as well as information about cycling in Kent generally. The stand was hosted by Kent County Council and supported by British Cycling, Cycles UK and the Kent Thameside Regeneration Partnership.

Cyclopark is set to bring first class cycling, running and extreme sports facilities to North Kent. The park will be one of the leading multi sport centres in the south of England and Jamie Staff hopes to develop a ‘Jamie Staff Academy’ on-site for young people to develop their talent. When completed in 2012, Cyclopark will offer an exciting range of activities for everyone from the enthusiastic beginner right up to the seasoned professional. Set within 43 hectares of landscaped parkland and with a 340m BMX racetrack, a skate park and a 2.9km circuit track for cycling and running, Cyclopark really will be a unique activity venue.
